I absolutely love this recipe and after years of using a variety of pimple creams and spot gels, this is the gentlest. Making homemade skin care at home means you can avoid all the extra stuff that is put into products AND tailor the strength to your own skin.

Manuka oil is just gorgeous and has a lovely fragrance that many people say aids relaxation along with promoting healthy skin.

Before I continue, I'm just going to come right out and say it - Manuka oil is really expensive!

So this DIY recipe is not necessarily about saving money, but more about creating high quality skin care products you can use at home. The brand I use is high quality and lasts a long time as I only need to use it sparingly. (send me a message if you want more details and to get a discount).

You can get cheaper versions like this one, which is diluted and if you read carefully, contains only 10% Manuka oil. So, to equate to the quantity in this recipe, you would need around 120 drops (which is around 6mls). You can certainly do this, but do keep in mind that you are adding a significant amount of almond oil with it. Almond oil is quite mild on the skin but I wouldn't recommend adding it to acne prone areas or existing spots as you will be adding extra oils to an area that really doesn't need it and may make it worse.

Tea Tree Oil is a hugely popular spot remedy BUT I have always found it to be on the harsh side and have often avoided using it due to the extra problems it causes on sensitive skin.If you can't get hold of Manuka, and are perfectly happy with Tea tree oil, then go ahead and substitute.

DIY Natural Home Made Spot Gel

Natural Spot Gel Recipe

12 Drops of Manuka Essential Oil (Or Tea Tree Oil)

2 Tablespoons of Aloe Vera gel

1/4 Teaspoon of Liquid Coconut Oil

Add ingredients to a glass jar and mix well to combine. Use as required.

Do carry out a skin test first, especially if you haven't used these ingredients before, just to make sure you don't have a reaction.

Store away from direct light and heat sources to protect the essential oils.

This is a long lasting item and can be stored in the refrigerator if you prefer. I just keep it amongst my other lotions and potions in the bathroom. If it has been sitting around for a while, I do give it a shake just to make sure the ingredients are still blended together.

I have the crazy urge to apologise for how expensive Manuka Essential Oil is, but I wouldn't be sharing this recipe with you guys if I didn't genuinely think it worth while. It's one of my favourite home made skin care items now and one that I couldn't go without.

If you give it a try, I'd really love to hear how it went and if you substituted for tea tree oil. Let me know, and don't forget to subscribe below for email updates on natural, eco-friendly living.
