This Honey and Oat Face Scrub and Face Mask is one of my favourite DIY recipes. It is completely natural, fantastic for all skin types and quick and simple to make. The results are instant and you wont have to wait for several tries before you see an improvement in your skin and complexion.
I think oats are kind of a magical. They contain proteins, fatty acids and anti-inflammatory properties ideal for sensitive skin.
Due to their composition, oats can sooth dry, flaky skin as well as relieve acne prone areas. There is no product available on the market that I know of, that can do all of these things!
I get so sick of the marketing hype surrounding many beauty products and have been disappointed over the years at the lack of results, and beauty products not living up to their claims.
Our skin really doesn't need all the preservatives and rubbish found in conventional products, so skip all the advertising B.S and try this recipe out. It's all natural and you can opt for organic ingredients if you wish.
You can easily make this at home and if you are near a wholefoods store they usually stock all three ingredients.

Ingredients
2 Tablespoons of Oatmeal or Oatbran
1 Teaspoon of Raw Honey
How to Make it
>Add oatmeal, raw honey and a sprinkle of chamomile flowers (or 1 drop of Chamomile Essential Oil, make sure to consult the bottle for instructions).
> Cover with hot water and stir
> Leave to sit for 5 minutes
This allows the mix to thicken up, you can adjust by adding more water (especially if using as a face wash) or less water (when making a face mask to ensure it is a thick mixture).
How to Use it:
Face Wash: Use a teaspoon of the mixture and apply as a daily face wash. Can be used twice a day
Face Mask: Apply 2-3 teaspoons and leave for 10-15 minutes for a face mask, this will draw out impurities and soften skin.
Hand & Body Wash: You can also use this mix as a an alternative to soap as a body and hand wash, especially good for sensitive skin.
How to Store it
Your mixture will keep for around 3 days out of the fridge and I recommend refrigerating it for a few extra days of use. When it stops smelling edible, throw it in your garden or compost and make a fresh batch.
Have you used oats as a base for DIY beauty products before? If not, I'm pretty sure you are going to love the results even it does seem a little strange to be using a breakfast cereal.
